Devlog #1 : Pre-production is done !

Everything starts while you're at home watching TV, in a French suburban area in the early 2000s. Suddenly, the intercom rings and your brother's voice tells you he is downstairs, waiting for you. There is only one catch : your brother has been dead for five years...

Welcome to the first ever devlog for our student project, A̷B̷E̶L̷ !

As a team, we figured it would be nice to write about our creative process during the projet, and introduce ourselves a bit better.

WHO ARE WE ?

We are 5 students from the French Graduate School for Video Games and Interactive Media. Each one of us is specialized in a different domain related to video game production :

  • Zoé is our Game & Narrative Designer : she created the game mechanics and planned every aspect of the story ABEL will tell, and how it will tell it. She is passionnate about narrative-driven games and works hard to deliver meaningful, impacting stories.
  • Yann is our Game Artist : he made what you will be able to behold in the game and beyond it. He is very keen on bringing powerful artistic takes to life through his work.
  • Louis is our Sound Designer : everything you hear in the game is the product of his hard work. He wishes to play with sounds and silence to manipulate players' emotions throughout the game.
  • Taslim is our Game Programmer & Tech Artist : from our interaction system to our crazy visual effects, he works the magic behind the scenes. He smiles at every technical challenge brought to him and makes everything look easy.
  • Antoine is our Producer : while everyone is focused on their work, he makes sure we don't stray from our vision. He makes sure the team stays positive, spends his days on Excel and delivers KPIs to teachers and members of the jury.

WHAT ARE WE DOING ?

By putting together our skills, we wish to deliver a one-of-a-kind narrative-driven game. In a very short time frame, we will tell you the story of a man going through his memories and perceptions of reality. Our goal is to make players feel uneasy and interested in our story.

We are just done with the pre-production phase and are finally sure where we're going. Now is time to put everything we conceptualized and tested so far into work, and get to actually making the game ! We'll make sure to keep you updated on our work until the release !
